Shrewsbury police host “coffee with a cop” to bring awareness to early breast cancer detection

If it’s the first Wednesday in October then it is “National Coffee with a Cop Day.” On Oct. 2, as in many neighboring communities, the occasion was celebrated in Shrewsbury with a meet and greet at Dunkin Donuts on Maple Avenue, where members of the town’s Police Department interacted with the community.

The venture was co-hosted by the Shrewsbury Fire and Police Relief Association and Shrewsbury Police Department- Patrol Officers Union NEPBA Local 191.

Shrewsbury Police Detective David Faucher noted that this was the first year that the department had hosted such an event.

“This year we’ve seized upon this to kick off our Pink Patch Project to benefit the 15-40 so we came up here and set up to sell our patches and keychains to raise money for the 15-40 in October,” Faucher added.

The items will also be on sale at the Shrewsbury Police Department, 106 Maple Ave., after Oct. 3. Patches are $10, keychains and stickers are $5.

The Pink Patch Project is a public awareness campaign where local police departments raise awareness of breast cancer, and support breast cancer research and fundraising.

“The 15-40 Connection’s mission is to teach people how to detect cancer early,” stated Jan Fountaine, donor services manager with the 15-40 Connection, who was on hand to meet members of the community.
