The University of Oregon Police Department holds a “Coffee with a Cop” event sponsored by Starbucks in the EMU once a month. The event is designed to give students a chance to talk with UOPD officers one on one and answer any questions or concerns they may have about police on campus.
“I like to be involved in events that have to do with the community. Particularly positive events,” said Aiken resident Pat Kirk.
Several community members met and spoke with local law enforcement officers Wednesday for 2020’s first Coffee With A Cop event. Visitors enjoyed coffee and doughnuts while meeting with Aiken Department of Public Safety Officers. Some were attending the event at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center for the first time.
Tuesday marked the first Coffee with a Cop for the Savannah Police Department in 2020. An event one 5-year-old almost never misses, and Tuesday was no different. Except this time, it was the officers taking time to honor their biggest little fan.
“We’re part of the community. We live here, play here, work here, too. So, we’re concerned about what’s going on in the community,” said Fuller. Fuller says many times people have questions, but it’s not practical for them to call the station. He says these events are beneficial because they give the public an opportunity to speak face to face with police.
More than 40 free cups of coffee were distributed to attendees of the Cary McDonald’s “Coffee With A Cop” event on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Police felt appreciative of the number of locals who thanked police for all the hard work they do in keeping the community safe and one of the highlights of the day was engaging with some of the younger local community who were extremely keen to have a photo with their local police.
Officers Jesse Abbott and Michael Maniaci, as well as sargeants Chad Hines and Cheyenne Cute, turned out for “Coffee with a Cop and Santa,” an event that aims to connect the community and the police department.
Though many customers were unaware of the event before walking in the door, many immediately struck up conversations of varying lengths with the officers — before and after ordering.
