The library was noisier than usual on Wednesday for the annual Coffee with a Cop. Preschool children and seniors and people in between stopped in for a chance to chat with Sparta Police Officers and enjoy a snack.
In addition to coffee, muffins and other treats were donated by Cloveberry, the Youth Services Department provided a police had and badge crafts for the children. Library Director David Costa said this year the Youth Services Librarian Meaghan Darling headed up the event.
“We enjoy participating in this national event and seeing how it fosters relationships within the community,” Darling said.
“Thank you once again to Dave Costa, Meaghan Darling, and Sparta Library for hosting our Second Annual Coffee with a Cop,” Chief Neil Spidaletto said. “Our Friends Dev and Georgia from Cloveberry once again donated all the delicious Coffee and baked goods for this event. The support that we get from the businesses and residents of this community is greatly appreciated.”
Lt John Lamon enjoyed a few minutes with the children from the Circle of Friends preschool held in the lower level of the library. He had a discussion about Halloween costumes; the boy was going to be SpongeBob but told Lamon he “couldn’t be Dracula,” without explanation.
“We had a great turn out of all ages to come down and meet many of the Sparta Police Officers that are proud to serve this great community of Sparta,” Spidaletto said. “We are committed to our mission to serve and protect sworn on the Oath we took.”
The event ran from 10 a.m. until noon and 5 to 7 p.m. allowing as many people to attend as possible according to Chief Neil Spidaletto.
