Sault Ste. Marie residents found plenty to talk about when Coffee with a Cop ran during Police Week at Station Mall.
Property crime, traffic-related queries and opioid use were brought up during one-on-one sessions with officers, Const. Troy Miller told Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Board at a meeting on Thursday.
“It was nice for people to have that outlet, the ability to talk and get honest answers from the officers,” he said.
He estimated “hundreds of conversations” happened between the public and and officers from different police services.
“I tracked mine at 134 … however there were many other officers there,” Miller told The Sault Star in an email on Friday.
Chief Hugh Stevenson told board members similar events will be held in the future.
“It was a great opportunity, honestly, just to interact with the public on a very human level,” he said.
Coffee with a Cop ran alongside Police Week displays at Station Mall from May 14 to 16.
