Coffee With A Cop

Almost everyone has to wake up and enjoy their morning cup of joe even our local campus police.

On Wednesday Oct. 2, 2019 Missouri Western Police held an event called “Coffee with Cops.” There was free coffee and prizes that were given away.

Some of the prizes included a blanket among other items. Everyone was welcome to come and get to know your local campus police.

Officer Jill Voltmer is a part of the campus P.D during the weekends at Missouri Western and attended “Coffee with Cops” on Wednesday.

Q: What brought you to Missouri Western’s police department? What is your favorite part about it?

A: I was a supervisor for the city police department for 25 years, then this opportunity opened up and I thought this was a good way to give back and give community.

Q: Tell us about “Coffee and Cops.” What gave you the inspiration for the event and why was it important to you?

A: We did it last semester as an ice breaker so students, staff and faculty could get to know us a little better and we plan on doing it every semester from here on. Oct. 2 was National Coffee with Cops Day so we have been planning this since last semester.

Q: What made you want to become a police officer?

A: It is an opportunity for new things everyday, and it’s a great way to help people.

Q: What self protection items are students allowed to have on campus?

A: Mace and tasers are allowed on campus and are available over the counter.

Q: Would the police department consider hosting a self protection class? What are some ways to always stay aware and safe?

A: Yes we would. Best way to be safe is to be aware of everything around you. Trust your instincts if you feel like something is wrong or out of place. We hold courtesy rides any time for students. Don’t hesitate to call us. We’d rather prevent than react.
