Members of the Dryden Police Service are celebrating Ontario’s annual Police Week a little differently this year with their “Coffee with a Cop” initiative – a new way for police to connect with residents and hear their concerns.
Constable and Community Services Officer Denise Szachury, Special Constable Cody Fedorchuk and Chief Doug Palson were at McDonald’s yesterday morning, offering free coffee and informal conversations with residents about their concerns in the community.
“This year, we’re trying a new initiative called Coffee with a Cop. We’re inviting the public to come down, have coffee with us, have an informal conversation about things they’re wondering about or concerns with the community, that they’re not comfortable making a formal complaint or phoning the police about,” said Szachury.
“We’ve had questions about by-laws, where you can drive off-road vehicles in town, traffic concerns, and we had people passing through the community asking us about Dryden It’s been very successful so far. It’s a really good community imitative, and we’re hoping to continue this into the future,” Szachury added.
The event is taking place again on Thursday at Tim Horton’s, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Ontario’s Police Week runs until May 18.
