“I just feel that we need to build trust and legitimacy with the community, and this is one of the ways we can go about that,” Hunt said. “This is more proactive, where we can get out and meet the community kind of in an informal setting, get to know them, and hear their concerns.”

Burger with a Cop comes to Alhambra with conversations about traffic, coyotes, and crime rates

On Wednesday night, local students, families, and other community members joined Alhambra police officers and department volunteers in a long line stretching down the sidewalk in front of the Habit Burger Grill on Main Street as the community engagement event Burger With a Cop was about to begin. Over 100 people were in and outside the restaurant restaurant property during the two hour event.

“We love the interaction with the citizens, again maybe that citizen has some information they can pass along to us, maybe there’s something suspicious going on their neighbor hood that hey haven’t called about but over a cup of coffee they will sit there and tell us about it and maybe it leads to something,” said Administrative Captain Larry Hendrickson.

As of 11 a.m., Conway said there had been a good showing of people willing to come out and discuss issues with himself and Evidence Technician Darrel Richards. The two were “stationed,” as it was, inside Starbucks from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday ready to talk with anyone willing to stop by and say hello.

Thanks to the Bayside community who came out for Coffee with a Cop to say gday to Capalaba Police Officers. It was a super busy morning coinciding with school holidays and the Easter road safety campaign. Part of our Easter road safety campaign; Operation Wake Up, involves community engagement in getting our message across. This event allowed us to do exactly that last week, engaged with coffee in hand!

Police educate locals on road safety this Easter, Calamvale

On Saturday April 13, Police from the Centenary Crime Prevention Unit, Mount Ommaney Road Policing Unit, Calamvale Station, Police Liaison officers and Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) were joined by the Centenary Patrol Group Inspector to host Coffee with a Cop at Calamvale McDonalds. During the event, police were also able to get into the Easter spirit by donning some festive bunny ears and handing out some chocolate Easter eggs to the local community – something which was again a hit with the kids!
