Nine–year–old Aubrey Kellogg, a fourth grader at Beattie Elementary, was curious about Abele and had some questions for him. Although she was shy at first, it didn’t take long for her to warm up. Aubrey’s curiosity led to 40 minutes of conversation. The pair asked each other questions about work and school, and they learned new things about each other. Officer Abele says that’s what this program is all about.
“There hasn’t really been a lot of people coming up to talk about concerns. If anything, they’ve been coming up to say thank you. Seriously,” Police Chief Matt Hamner said.
Feedback generated at the events largely breaks down along quality-of-life issues and simple “nice to meet you” conversations, said Sgt. Nick Mannix. Others ask about the job, and people always want to see the cars, he said.
“I hope that our community feel comfortable talking to the Police about whatever issues they like – be they good or bad,” he said. “Whilst the cold weather was not conducive to chatting, those who took the time to come and say hello hopefully took away a positive experience.
A few police officers in Lebanon, New Hampshire, took a break from their usual duties Wednesday to mingle with the community over a sweet treat. The department held its ‘Ice cream with a Cop’ event at Ice cream Fore-u.
Other Queensland Police Service attendee’s included police training officers, domestic violence Police Liaison Officers (PLO), scenes of crime officers (SOCO), first year constables and Officers in Charge including Inspector Donnelly. We can’t forget to mention our junior police officer Owen who is pictured above and attends all of our police displays and events to support the Queensland Police, learn more about the Service and chat with our friendly officers hoping for a secret mission or two.
During the event, residents are encouraged to talk with officers about any questions or concerns they have. People were also welcomed to just have a friendly conversation and get to know the officers who serve in the community. One Ring doorbell security camera was also given away to a resident who participated in this month’s event.
On Tuesday, August 20, police, Volunteers in Policing (ViPs) and Crimstoppers have teamed up to present a Coffee with a Cop event at Vintage Apron Cafe, Capalaba Central Shopping Centre.
“We had several people from around the county come and take time out of their morning to visit with us,” Saso said. “There were also many travelers just passing through who joined us which made the experience that much better.”
