For more than two years, the department has made an effort to get out in the community and engage with local residents. These events are organized by the Community Outreach Team, a group that was created to bridge the gap between the police and the community.
Many strong relationships are built over a good cup of coffee and ACT Policing are hoping this will be the case for them in a new community meet-and-greet trial.
The Spokane Police Department held a unique version of their “coffee with a cop” event on Thursday. This time, it was aimed at those who are deaf or hard of hearing, so they too can have a chance to have their questions answered. The event was staffed by officers who know American Sign Language, so they could communicate with those who may not be able to communicate well verbally.
Police from South Brisbane hosted another Coffee with a Cop event in Southbank this week. Police took the opportunity to engage with the growing cycling community, to strengthen relationships, and gain feedback on how relationships between bike riders and other road users could be improved.
Longreach and Ilfracombe Police took to Apex Park for Coffee with a Cop recently. Police took the opportunity to discuss road safety, distracted and fatigued driving with travellers which enjoying the outback sun.
“I think it’s great that they’re out here in the community and interested in the things that are going on, interested in what’s bothering us, interested in kind of making their presence known and giving us some ideas and how we can improve our neighborhoods and placed around us,” Scott Hughes said.
