The program launched in California eight years ago when officers from the Hawthorne police department were looking for ways to better interact with citizens, according to CoffeeWithACop.com. The idea is for officers to meet with the community in a non-crisis situation so that the public is familiar with officers.

In Pine Brook, residents chatted with patrolmen, Lieutenant Charles Tremblay, Captains Mark Olsson and Carlo Marucci, Chief Andrew Caggiano, and Morris County Sheriff James Gannon. Tots Grace and Zachary got a “tour” of a Montville police car, courtesy of Patrolman Dan Cooney.

Caggiano wanted to thank the residents who came out for the event.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to meet and share conversation with our residents,” he said. “We are looking forward to repeating this event in the future.”
