On Saturday December 8, police from the Centenary Crime Prevention Unit, Mount Ommaney Police Station, North Centenary Police Beat and Mount Ommaney Road Policing Unit were joined by Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) for Coffee with a Cop at Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre.

The event coincides with ‘Operation Wake Up’ which was launched on November 13. Operation Wake Up is a South Brisbane Police District targeted approach to reducing fatal and serious crashes through proactive traffic enforcement and community engagement and education.

Police and Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) were also joined by the local Member for Mount Ommaney, Jess Pugh who was keen to get on board and promote Operation Wake Up.

The local community were keen to sign up to the local myPolice blog and learn about crime in their area as well as enjoy a free coffee and a chat with police.

Police enjoyed speaking with the local community about crime prevention and general safety as well as traffic related questions.

The police bike was a huge hit for not only the young kids but also the young at heart, who enjoyed the challenge of getting on and off the bike to capture a photo opportunity.

Queensland Police don’t want anyone to become the next road statistic from the Fatal Five so ensure you drive safe on the roads especially over the busy Christmas period. Wake up to Road safety!

We look forward to seeing you at our next local Centenary event.

Stay safe and Merry Christmas to you all!
