Cookies with a Cop

Community outreach is an important part of the Walterboro Police Department’s mission and goal to serve the community. One of the ways that the Walterboro Police Department reaches this goal is to implement new programs that increase the interaction between the community and the police department.
Each fall, the police department hosts Coffee with a Cop, which allows individuals the opportunity to ask officers questions while enjoying a fresh cup of coffee at a local restaurant.
But Chief Wade Marvin wanted to take the same concept, but gear it towards children. So last year, the police department hosted its first Cookie with a Cop event at schools and daycares within the city limits.
In 2017, the second year hosting the event, new daycares and children were added to the list. During the week of Nov. 6, the Walterboro Police Department visited the following schools and daycares: Bethel U.M. Preschool, Edgewood Baptist Preschool, Faith Baptist, Forest Hills Daycare, First Baptist Wee Program, Forest Hills Elementary School, Colleton County Academy, and a home school group.
“Building relationships with children at an early age is important for police officers, especially because we want them to learn to trust us if they need help. Cookies with a Cop was successful for the second year, and we are thankful for all of the schools and daycares that allowed us to visit,” said Chief Marvin.
