The Coffee with a Cop event has become so popular the Fairfield Police Department will be hosting one each month for the coming year, according to Sgt. Jeff Osgood.
“We have gone from five per year to one each month,” Osgood said Saturday. “We are looking to hit each region in the area.”
The Starbucks on Central Way was filled Saturday with people who wanted to chat with police and have a cup of coffee.
Mike and Erin Easter live nearby and wanted to stop in to show their support of law enforcement, but they also walked to discuss recent mailbox break-ins.
“I wanted to know what they were doing about the mail thefts,” Erin Easter said. “It can cause all kinds of problems with identity theft.”
They were pleased to learn that two police officers have been assigned to the area.
“It’s great that Chief Joe Allio responded to the people’s concerns,” Mike Easter said.
Osgood said the Police Department has expanded its community outreach with new monthly community education forums and regional neighborhood watch meetings, which will be on the Fairfield Police Facebook event page.
Trish Hornisher just moved to the area from Napa and was interested in talking about Nextdoor.com, which is giving neighbors a place to share information on everything from garage sales to possible criminal activity.
“It’s a place people can look out for each other,” she said.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative that hopes to make connections with community members in a neutral space.
