Dozens of people came out for Coffee with a Cop’s holiday edition, Cocoa with a Cop, on Saturday. Officers with the Colorado Springs and Fountain police departments, along with Sheriff Bill Elder and El Paso County deputies, continued the community conversation.

Local law enforcement agencies hold the event every month in different parts of the city. Elder said it’s important to hear the concerns of the people they serve. Discussing ideas at these events has even led to new programs.

“We are asking people that have security cameras to register them with us and then we can go back when we have a crime in the neighborhood and ask if they might have seen something on their security cameras,” Elder said. “That was actually a comment that came up at one of these Coffee with a Cops, and it is actually turning out to be really a great idea. So we built a program around it. We’ve launched it in the county. We’ve got a number of places in the city we believe that they’re going to follow along as well.”

Kids at the event also had a chance to have their pictures taken with Santa.
