This year’s Coffee With a Cop events on Oct. 2 with local law enforcement was a tremendous success, said organizer Kellie Risso.
“Thank you everyone who came out to chat with your local police and enjoy a cup of coffee,” Risso said. “Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community they serve together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about each other.”
While many towns and cities across the country hold Coffee with a Cop events throughout the year, the first Wednesday in October is the “National Coffee with a Cop Day”. The event allows for a relaxed one-on-one situation for area residents to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know their local law enforcement, the agencies said in an earlier press release. The police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve, the program also aims to develop the practice of improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
Risso said thanks go out to the Starbucks in Ponderay, Evans Brothers Roasters in Sandpoint, Infinity Café in Priest River and Audrey’s Restaurant in Newport for hosting the event as well as to their staffs for their generous hospitality and service.
“And a big thank you to all participating police departments of the Ponderay Police Department, Sandpoint Police Department, Priest River Police Department, Newport, Wash., Police Department and the Pend Oreille Sheriff’s Department in Newport, Wash.
“Your involvement will continue to keep this event growing,” Risso said. “See you in 2020.”
