The Bay St. Louis Police Department is building trust with the community one cup of coffee at a time.

Many people gathered at Central Bible Church in Bay St. Louis Friday morning for Coffee with a Cop. The event brings police officers and the community members they serve together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about each other.

Police officers tell News 25 that they originally intended the event to happen only once a month, but has now evolved into happening twice a month because of high demand. Darren Freeman with Bay St. Louis PD said, “One on one conversation with them to discuss some of their concerns as well as getting to know the community and the community getting to know the police department. We have had increased participation. Every event, it’s grown and the conversation has gotten better every time and the citizens are getting more and more comfortable with the police department and we are working to build that relationship more and more every day.”

The next Coffee with a Cop will be held at Bay St. Louis on September 29th.
