On Thursday September 20, Police from Sherwood Station, Centenary Crime Prevention Unit and Volunteers in Policing (VIPs), hosted Coffee with a Cop at Honour Expresso Graceville.

Coffee with a Cop allows the local community to come and have a chat to local police about local crime, traffic concerns and any other police related questions.

Police and VIPs were able to hand out important home and vehicle security information and had a lot of residents sign up to Centenary myPolice site.

The local community enjoyed their coffees made by the wonderful Baristas at Honour Expresso.

It was so lovely to see how passionate the local community is about keeping each other safe and watching out for their neighbours homes.

Officer in Charge of Sherwood Police Station, Senior Sergeant Michael Coulson, is very passionate about the personal safety of his community and would like to remind everyone to lock their house doors/windows as well as ALWAYS locking your vehicle.

Police would like to continue to engage with the local community in the future so keep a look out for upcoming events.

Police would like to remind everyone there are a number of things you can do to reduce the risk of being broken into:

  • Lock your windows, doors and garage and secure windows even while at home including on the upper level of your home;
    DO NOT leave valuables, keys, wallets, phones etc. on the bench or in view;
    Lock internal doors from the garage into the house; keep garage doors locked;
    Install key operated locks or security grills on windows and deadlocks on doors;
    Use padlocks on side gates to the back yard;
    Put finger guards on security doors that are not always key-locked;
    Consider installing an alarm – always set the alarm when you are away from home;
    Do not leave keys in security locks on your windows or doors;
    Remove external objects that can be used as ladders;
    Get to know your neighbours; and
    Report any suspicious behaviour to police as that can prevent, and solve crime.
