It’s National Police Week and many celebrate over a cup of coffee with a Law Enforcement Officer at the Artful Cup on Tuesday, May 15.
The goal of this event is to allow citizens to interact with officers, and get to see them in an informal setting. “It gives us an opportunity to show the community that we’re normal people. We can come out here and we can have normal conversations, and it’s an opportunity for us to interact with the community – that’s the best part of it,” says Dustin Bovee, a Grand Junction Police Officer.
The event is held at the Artful Cup, and the proceeds from this coffee shop benefit HopeWest Kids. “Not only are they interacting with police, but you’re also helping HopeWest and providing grief programs for children here in our community,” says Callie Varra of HopeWest.
On Friday, May 19, there will be many events happening in honor of National Police Week at Long Family Memorial Park. From 5:30-7:30 P.M., there are events such as Touch-a-Truck, Special Olympics CrossFit/Truck Pull Games. At 7:30 P.M. a Memorial Vigil will be held, and at 8:30 there will be a Special Olympics Torch Run 5K Glow.
