Residents had their coffee with a cop in Abingdon today.

The initiative is a partnership with McDonald’s and the Abingdon Police Department.

It is an effort to reach the community directly and find out what problems might be happening that officers can address.

Lt. Jon Holbrook said they learned about gas thefts from a local business and church security concerns and they are already planning for another event.

“It is everything. You have to have community support to be a police agency in this day in time. We want the community support. We want to see what their needs and wants are from a policing agency, and we’re going to try to provide that as best we can,” Holbrook said.

Abingdon Police remind citizens if you do suspect a crime is happening, report it immediately. You do not have to wait until a public event to do so.
