Residents, community leaders, business owners and local politicians had the chance to engage with their local police earlier this week at a special Coffee with a Cop program at McDonald’s Calamvale.

The initiative is part of a strategic engagement program by the South Brisbane Police District which centred around ‘Operation Wake Up Domestic Violence‘ and ‘Operation Wake Up Road Safety.’

These Operation’s continue to make an impact towards safety on our community, and there has been amazing progress since the official launch last year.

With the help of Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) and Volunteers with Police (ViPs) attendees from near and far were able to receive timely home and personal safety advice and treat themselves to a free coffee thanks to McDonalds who said they were delighted to be part of this initiative.

Acting Senior Sergeant Jim Bellos from the South Brisbane District Crime Prevention Unit said police had received a great response from the community.

“Education through proactive and positive community engagement is critical to keeping our community safe,” Acting Sergeant Bellos said.

A special thanks to the team from McDonald’s Calamvale for their wonderful hospitality. Over 80 beverages were supplied during the program.

Thanks to everyone who popped in to say hello.

So whether it’s over latte, hot chocolate or a cappuccino, come and meet your local police and brew up a conversation at the next ‘Coffee with a Cop.’
