Most folks only meet officers in stressful situations. So, Asheville Police Capt. Joe Silberman said he thought game time would be a great way to engage with the public in a more laid back environment.

To that end, Thursday’s Coffee with a Cop session was held at Well Played Board Game Cafe on Wall Street, where the public was invited to challenge officers in a board game.

“Officers are often called to really hard situations that are tense and stressful for people around them,” Silberman said. “This is a way to not have the tension and stress of some kind of incident or negative experience like a traffic collision.”

APD officials said Coffee with a Cop and Walk with a Cop events help residents get to know officers in their neighborhoods.
