Today marks one month since the Antioch Waffle House shooting took the lives of four people.

Metro Police returned to the diner Tuesday morning for an event they call “Coffee with a Cop”.

About a dozen officers gathered for the event. Their mission – to remind the community that officers are here for them.

South Precinct Commander Paul Trickey said,”I think it’s important for the community to come out today to recognize we still want to work closely with the community in light of the terrible tragedy that did occur here. The important thing is just to remind the community we’re still here every day to help prevent other crimes from occurring.”

Police officers used the time to talk directly with the community, listen to concerns and create partnerships.

Officers heard concerns about speeding in residential neighborhoods and car theft, among other issues.

They got to touch base with Waffle House patrons and staff, who are still dealing the fear and loss.

Rosa Dauda said, “I know their job is a very hard job, a very tough job and it makes us feel more safe in the community. If we see anything, we won’t hesitate to call them.”

Everyone who attended this morning got free coffee.

The Waffle House is donating all proceeds to families of the victims through this Friday.
