In celebration of Georgia Cities Week, Hahira hosted its Coffee with a Cop program Tuesday to connect people with law enforcement.
The Hahira Police Department came out for its Coffee with a Cop program to get out into the community and meet the people of Hahira.
“Sit and talk to them, you know? Have a conversation, one on one, just like two friends would do,” said Hahira Police Chief Terry Davis.
Conversation that Davis said can sometimes even help them with their ability to protect the community.
“Sometimes, in casual conversation, then they come up with information that is really valuable to something that you’re working on,” said Davis.
Davis hopes people see them as regular people, just like everyone else, just with the job to protect and serve.
“We’re every day people, we live in the community, we work here and eat here and worship here. We’re like everyone else,” said Davis.
Sara Martin works at Daylight Donuts and said she thinks programs like this really get that message across.
“You know, I’ve gotten to know them on a personal level and each one is really nice and kind and compassionate. I think they all work really, really hard,” said Martin.
Martin said she thinks that personal touch is a part of what makes the Hahira community so special.
Davis said that he thinks programs like this help the public to realize police and the community are all in this together.
