The Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce (DBCC), like many organizations across the country, hosts gatherings each October for area residents to come out and get to know their local law enforcement.

Usually labeled Coffee with a Cop, the events have always been a hit in Discovery Bay, with many people coming out to meet the Sheriff’s deputies who patrol the roads and answer emergency calls. This month, however, the chamber has decided to include the first responders of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD).

Amy Agno, DBCC executive director, said community members had asked for the fire district to be invited to join, and she was happy to comply.

“This year, we decided instead to host Coffee with a First Responder,” Agno explained. “We recognize that our small community needs to have access to both our sheriffs and our fire department in a fun and informal setting. It provides a nice way to have a positive interaction with both organizations and bring our community together. We hope the members of our community can join us and get to know those who are helping serve our community and keep it safe.”

The drop-in event will be casual. There will be no planned agendas or speeches. It is simply an opportunity for neighbors to ask questions in an informal setting and get to know their first responders.

Lt. Matt Foley of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said he appreciates the chamber’s efforts in bringing the community together.

“This event is a great way for any member of the community to sit down with members of the Sheriff’s Office in a relaxed environment to ask questions or discuss issues of concern,” Foley said. “It is also a great opportunity for members of the Sheriff’s Office to meet with members of the fire district to strengthen our relationship to better service the community.”
