The Utica Police Community Outreach Team took time to meet with students from Upstate Cerebral Palsy.
Snacks at the Tracks is a social enterprise venture through UCP where you can have coffee with a cop.
Students are able to engage with police officers and learn about the police department. Officers were able to chat with students in a casual atmosphere, but the big hit was Verick the police dog.
“To meet a cop in a friendly environment like our cafe here in the historic Union Station, I think is such a great icebreaker for them,” said Carleen Stewart, vice president of strategic development at UCP. “You never know in the future when they might need the assistance of a police officer, and meeting them on friendly terms like this, I think just breaks down barriers for their future.”
This was the first time Coffee with a Cop was held at Union Station. There were about 30-40 people who took the time to meet with police.
