Post 3 Troopers participate in national Coffee with a Cop event

Most people only interact with law enforcement during an emergency. Police in South-Central Kentucky are trying to change that by learning more about those in the community over a cup of coffee.

Coffee with a Cop is a national event which took place across the country on Wednesday, and it’s the second year that Kentucky State Police Post 3 participated.

Troopers met with community members at Q Coffee Emporium in Bowling Green for about two hours, starting at 8:30 a.m.

The goal was to help law enforcement and the people they serve come together and socialize.

According to the public information officer at KSP Post 3, it’s an effort to strengthen and build relationships at a time in this country when public opinion of police is often negative and distrusting.

“This is the way that policing used to be done. A lot of times now we rely on social media and technology. You used to go to your corner store, and you drunk a cop of coffee and you talked to everybody. That’s how you got information, and that’s how people in the community interacted with law enforcement. We’re trying to bring a little bit of that back and outreach a little bit,” said Daniel Priddy.

Troopers around the state of Kentucky participated in Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday.
