Cops stopping for a coffee. Not unusual.

Cops stopping for a coffee and engaging discussions about work and safety in the community? For Regina Police, that’s also not unusual.

The Regina Police Service enjoyed their most recent installment of Coffee With A Cop at a local McDonalds, providing residents the opportunity to sit down with police.

Chief Evan Bray was in attendance for the affair and said it’s important to engage with residents on a variety of issues, some of which they have a strong connection to.

“A lady came in and had a family member who had been running away from,” he said. “And she really wanted to our officers about chronic runaways, the danger that it poses, and not only for the children, but for the families as well.”

“She was really interested in digging into the issue and finding out what can we do as community to try address this issues.

Bray says talks like these and just engaging actively with the community is essential for officers to make that connection with the community and the people they serve.

“We’re only as good as the community believes we are,” said the Chief. “If the community has trust in us, if the community believes in our police service, then really that goes a long way for us being able to do our job.”
