Coffee is an American staple. Often it’s the currency of conversation — business deals, budding romances and friendly gatherings often happen around a cup of joe. In Ada, it’s quickly becoming a conduit between the community and its police officers.

Coffee with a Cop, a monthly opportunity for Ada residents to get to know the police officers serving their community, has become an increasingly popular event.

“We do it every month, and our guys really enjoy meeting with the public like that,” Ada Police Chief Mike Miller said. “It’s all been positive.”

Miller said he’s noticed an improvement in community relations since the program began.

“Anytime we can interact with the public like that, we get to know people we didn’t know before,” Miller said. “There’s always someone different there.”

Gray Real Estate opened its doors to officers and the public Tuesday morning, facilitating the event in a venue that’s not typically associated with coffee.

“We designed the office in a way that would be inviting for the public to come in and get to know our community,” owner and broker Amber Gray said. “We were thrilled and honored to provide an opportunity for the community to come in and visit with law enforcement officers about any concerns they may have or just simply thank them for their service.”

Gray said that kind of community interaction is exactly what she had in mind when she designed the space the real estate agency now occupies.

“We certainly wanted to be a part of that,” Gray said. “We’re so thankful for law enforcement and everything they do for us. We’re just very appreciative.”

Gray Real Estate Elite Realtor Donnie Woodell echoed Gray’s feelings.

“We’re just proud and thankful they serve our community,” Woodell said. “We wanted the opportunity to say thank you for everything they do.”

Miller said he appreciated Gray Real Estate opening its doors to his officers.

“We really appreciate everyone that hosts us,” he said. “We invite everyone to come get to know us.”
