Thursday was a day for free coffee, cookies, and discussion. McDonald’s was the host for Garden City P.D’s first coffee with a cop.

Members of the Garden City Police Department set up inside Thursday ready to talk to the people that they serve.

Police in Garden City want to build relationships with members of the community, so they can better serve them.

Officers even went behind the counter to greet customers at the drive through window.

“We want people to know that sometimes we understand that they don’t necessarily want to come to the police department or will come to the police department. So, we’re coming out into the community as we should be because we’re here every day to say what are your concerns? What are your questions? What are your suggestions? Because, we’re ready to listen,” said Police Chief Gillbert Ballard.

Even though, this was the first one, the department has plans for more coffee with a cop events in the future.
