'Coffee with a Cop' hits ZionsvilleBraving icy roads, Zionsville residents met with officers from Zionsville Police Department for an informal “Coffee with a Cop” event.

From 9-10:30 a.m at McDonald’s, at 50 Brendan Way in Zionsville, community members discussed community issues, built relationships and also drank coffee.

Zionsville Chief of Police Robert Knox said the event went well, with roughly 20 residents showing, despite the weather.

Though there were no concerns voiced, Knox said, “It’s still a great opportunity to network and sit back down in a relaxed atmosphere and visit with folks.

“It’s nice to have that soft, neutral location where we can just visit, and they can see us as people just like themselves,” he said. “It’s just a very positive and rewarding experience.”

Because Zionsville schools were closed for the day, due to weather, some parents brought their children to the event, where officers gave out sticker badges and had a chance to speak with the school children.

Residents got the chance to talk about the town, its recent growth, how much it has changed and their love for Zionsville, Knox said, describing it as “typical coffee-shop-type of conversation.”

“We get a lot of people appreciating what we do, which is really a neat thing about the Zionsville community, because we do enjoy a lot of support from the community for our efforts and the efforts of the other town departments,” Knox said.

He added that he hopes more will continue to show for future events to speak to the department about “whatever is on their mind, good, bad or the ugly.”
