Kids were able to have a pop or a popsicle with a cop Wednesday afternoon.

The North Platte Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol had representatives at the event.

The objective is to connect more with kids in the community and let them know that law enforcement is there to protect them.

“We want them to understand that law enforcement can help them. If they’re lost or if they need any kind of assistance or even if they just want to talk to a police officer. They can wave us down and we’ll talk to them and show them our equipment. I think events like this are key to making them understand that or helping them understand that,” said Officer Beth Kerr.

Popsicles came in handy in the heat and kids enjoyed running in the fountains at Memorial Park.

Similar community law enforcement events are held during the year, like coffee with a cop and the annual law enforcement picnic.
