On Wednesday, May 1, a cohort of police including the likes of Acting Chief Superintendent Virginia Nelson, Superintendent Michael Niland of South Brisbane District and Bayside Patrol Group Inspector Lindsay Kilpatrick, journeyed to Russell Island for a lovely morning of coffee, mingling and chatting with locals.

This Coffee with a Cop coincided with Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month and was held at Fresh on Bayview Cafe, purposely themed to provide information about domestic violence.

Acting Chief Superintendent Nelson stressed the importance of getting our message across about together making our community safer and preventing Domestic and Family Violence.

“To share our information and knowledge over a coffee alongside staff from The Centre for Women and Co is that little bit extra special in such a great location like Russell Island,” Acting Chief Superintendent Nelson said.

In excess of 50 coffees were consumed over conversations with Bayside District Crime Prevention Coordinators (DCPC) and their Volunteers in Police (ViPs), Crime Stoppers, local Russell Island Police, Vulnerable Persons Unit, Redland City Council Community Champions and representatives from The Centre for Women and Co (formerly known as WAVSS).

Most importantly though, is that we were able to get a lot of information out to locals about domestic violence support services available.
