Customers say something unexpected when the walked into a fast food restaurant Wednesday afternoon.

Frank Bianco walked into the McDonald’s in Brodheadsville and thought there was trouble. He saw a state trooper behind the counter.

“I said, what’s going on there? Thought maybe they had a robbery and was checking the cash register,” laughs Frank Bianco of Saylorsburg.

But trooper Peters just wanted to take his order!

“I was surprised,” Bianco smiles.

Over at the drive thru, another trooper is stationed.

“They’re shocked, they don’t expect to see me there,” says Pennsylvania State Trooper Anthony Petroski.

But trooper Petroski is handing out food, not citations. He adds, “of course I joked around with some of them about it! But no, it’s all in good fun.”

This is called ‘Coffee With A Cop”. It’s a way to bring law enforcement and the community together.

“Here in a social setting they might, you know, say something that gives you the indication that maybe something is going on in the community that we need to be part of,” says Pennsylvania State Trooper David Peters.

The troopers say working in the fast food industry isn’t easy, so they don’t plan on quitting their day jobs anytime soon. “Absolutely a new found respect,” laughs Trooper Petroski.

But they better watch out, because McDonald’s is quietly recruiting.

“I mean, I guess they don’t know it yet, but we got them on the schedule for Saturday! So you know, they’ll be back,” laughs David Contreras, McDonald’s manager.

‘Coffee With A Cop’ is a national initiative.
