Members of the Staunton Police Department came out to Kline’s Dairy Bar in Staunton to get some ice cream, and interact with the community, on Tuesday.

It’s part of National Police Week, which Staunton is celebrating by “painting the Valley blue.”

Children got to talk to police officers, ask questions, and see those who protect and serve them in a more positive light.

“Generally, kids really love it when they see a police officer,” said Jennifer Stevens, the Public Information Officer for Staunton City Police. “But out here, they really get to come up to you, talk to you, ask you questions, and they really enjoy just seeing you here and getting to have ice cream with you, and just feeling important enough to be with a police officer.”
