Police officers took time out of their day yesterday to sit down and talk with those interested in speaking with the police about their concerns.

The event, called Coffee With a Cop, happened yesterday at McDonald’s Middle Road from 7am to 10am, with the coffee free of charge, courtesy of McDonald’s. It entails exactly that, a police officer sitting down with one person to talk about police matters.

The event was first held last year and has been brought back this year due to its success. The Department of Public Safety allows their officers the chance, one day a year for a few hours, to speak with members of the community who want to share their personal ideas on ways to further ensure safety for the CNMI.

Through this event, members of the public can get acquainted with the local police force as equals in a neutral environment over a cup of coffee.

The event is also celebrated in accordance with Public Safety Awareness Month.
